Patch 5.4 PTR: Mounts, cloaks and glyphs

Patch 54 PTR Mounts, cloaks and glyphsWowhead's dataminers have unearthed a whole lot of new items with the latest build to hit the PTR servers, as Perculia posted earlier. First up, there's the Legendary capes, with their procs in place, seven in total, with different stats for different classes and specializations. You can also see the 3D models of the Legendary capes over on Wowhead, and I have to say, as someone who usually leaves their cloak turned off, these are very pretty indeed.

There are also new mounts, the Vicious Skeletal Warhorse, as shown in the header image, and the Vicious Warsaber. These may well be new mounts to purchase with honor points, conquest points, or may require a certain rating, or similar, but however you get them we absolutely agree with Perculia when she says they sound PvP-centric.

Patch 54 PTR Mounts, cloaks and glyphsWhat's more, Corrupted Garrosh now has a glowy new look, a vast improvement on his old one, and appears to be less bulked out with all the sha influence.

Instead, he appears to be surrounded with a faint purple glow, whilst looking far more like his former self, but it is possible that we might see the very purple hulked Garrosh make a return, this could be an interim look for him while he's in the process of being corrupted.

There are also several new glyphs, but these are all marked with NYI, meaning Not Yet Implemented, so these could count for nothing at all. Some of them do look pretty great, though, even if several are cosmetic effects like surrounding you in feathers if you have Slow Fall active, or reducing the size of a Water Elemental. Patch 5.2: No flying mounts in the new zone

The ability to use (and not use) flying mounts in the leveling experience in Mists has been a ... topic of some debate amongst people. Some feel it's added the overall experience, while others are upset they don't have the ability to dive out of the sky anymore and quest super quickly.

Blizzard was pretty adamant that this design decision was necessary, and Bashiok indicates in his post that's how they still feel.

More importantly, however, is that Bashiok notes there will be no flying in the new zone coming in patch 5.2. It'll be very Isle of Quel'Danas-like, for those of you who've played there during The Burning Crusade.

Bashiok's full statement is as follows (bold added for emphasis):

BashiokWe pretty firmly believe the questing experience is just wholly better when you can't lift off and set down wherever you like, frog leaping from quest objective to quest objective. Certainly we've supported that with no flying for the leveling content of Wrath and Mists, and only after you hit level cap can you obtain the ability to fly. The new zone coming in 5.2 is not unlike the Isle of Quel'Danas in a few ways, and one of them is that there's no flying. That helps us achieve that desire for progressive questing, it's good for supporting world PvP, as well as lets us make really difficult outdoor encounters, like Oondasta - who is OG Kazzak in difficulty - that you can't just drop on top of from the sky.

I can't imagine flying mounts ever going away, they're a big part of the game at this point, but certainly they can take a break when it makes sense and we can present content in a more intimate way from time to time.

New Zandalari rares dropping mounts in patch 52Wowhead's dataminers and researchers have been extremely busy digging up new information on the patch 5.2 PTR, and amongst other things they have found some interesting new rares. A new achievement called Zul'Again -- the comedic title said by one commenter to be a reference to the term used to complain about the consistent appearance of Zandalari content in every expansion -- calls for the killing of ten Zandalari Scouts and five Zandalari Warbringers.

These mobs appear all over Pandaria, not just on the new islands, and according to another commenter, Ozlem, the Warbringers are 92 rares which may require a group, or, as the wowhead article asserts, a tank or a healer at the very least. The scouts, conversely, are easier to solo.

Both types of mob, far from being simply an achievement criteria, also drop bags. It seems from what has been discovered so far that the Warbringers can, amongst other things including crafting materials and reputation items, drop one of three mounts. The reputation rewards are bind on account, which naturally means that they can be sent to lower level characters to turn in for reputation with all the current Pandaria factions.

It's not completely clear at this point exactly which mounts they will drop, but it will likely be three of the new mounts being added in patch 5.2, some of which can be seen in action on the preview trailer. This is purely speculation, with just a little hope mixed in, but the only mount in wowhead's list which has three versions is the Primordial Direhorn. There is also other information around that suggests this is the mount dropped, and the warbringers seem, at least some of the time, to be riding these triceratops-esque mounts. Whether or not all three mounts available from these mobs are the Direhorns remains to be seen, but I'll certainly be hunting some rares come 5.2!

Breakfast Topic: Are you a sucker for in-game pets and mounts?

Breakfast Topic Are you a sucker for ingame pets and mountsThose cute little in-game pets -- they're not so innocent. Once you allow one of the little buggers to slip past your legs and dash into the house, there's no getting all those muddy little paw prints off the floor (or the couch). Is there anybody out there who can harden their heart after just one? I'm afraid to even dip a toe into those waters, fearful that Lil' Ragnaros will begin bellowing "By PayPal be purged!" as my pet tab ticks inexorably upward. Indeed, I whisked him from my Amazon wish list the morning I realized in horror that should someone ever bestow me with his code, the door would stand wide open to the rest of his irresistible little friends.

So how are you fine, upstanding consumers coping with the pressure? Have you snatched up a brand new Swift Windsteed? Do purchasable pets and mounts hold no interest for you? Do you pick and choose? Collect them all?
