Welcome back to The Queue, the daily Q&A column in which the WoW Insider team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Adam Holisky (@adamholisky) will be your host today.
There's no end to the number of people who will tell you how to play this game. None. Even here, despite having a large audience of varying playstyles, we can let things slip through about the only way to do things.
You must raid to experience WoW, you must PvP, you must level your pets from 1-25 to be any sort of serious pet battler.
But you know what?
We're all full of a bunch of hot air. At the end of the day all we're able to do is give you what we think is the most fun way to enjoy WoW based on our experiences. The same goes for Ghostcrawler, Zarhym, Neth, Bashiok, etc... All they can do is tell you how they enjoy it, how they experience it. At the end of the day WoW is a highly personal experience, one that humanity hasn't had before. It's an entire virtual world, whose population would be the 91st largest country in the world (down from 74). Let that put the subscriber drop in perspective for you.
There are 151 real life nations that are smaller than WoW. And none of that matters, because it's your World of Warcraft. As in the rest of your life, make of it what you will.
Paul asked:
The latest scuttlebutt reported on the idea of a WoW film was that the project is in danger of being scrapped (yellow/red lighted) in the wake of the latest game news. It'll probably depend on what the future news is, but even the devs indicated they expect the population to continue declining over the next year; we'll probably never see a WoW film come to light.
I saw that report from a movie blog of some sorts come across the news wire a few days ago. After reading it I looked for a source for a good half hour. I couldn't find ANYTHING.
There is zero indication that the WoW movie is in any sort of danger. And think for a minute too... what would make people want to get back into WoW? What about a major Hollywood blockbuster? That'd probably do something to the sub numbers...
Sergel asked:
Question out of curiosity: how do you balance WoW with your significant other? Obviously they are priority, but do you two have an agreement that you'll only play a certain amount, or you don't want to be interrupted at certain times (eg. raids), etc.? Or do they play with you, and it becomes a mutual activity for the two of you?
My wife doesn't play WoW. She tried it a few times at my request, but didn't see the draw to it. Video Games for her go about as far as Mario and that's it (which is great, we have a blast with the Wii). The balance is a few fold.
First, I have a laptop, so when she's just vegging out infront of the TV, I might be rocking the laptop with WoW loaded up, or whatever video game I'm currently obsessing over. We're right next to each other, and we're still idly chatting, etc etc...
Second, I schedule a couple times a week I'm going to go gaming with friends. To me there's no difference between going to a baseball game or a bowling league and hopping on WoW and sitting in mumble. It's all a good time and she can hear me laughing away with everyone. She schedules a couple times a week to go and do other stuff too, like choir rehearsals or girls nights, etc... It's all about communication.
Third, and most importantly, I don't ever let a video game get in the way of us. If she's having a bad day and needs my attention, then guess what? Farming takes a back seat. And if she's still upset around the time the raid comes around? Welp, bai friends. My wife takes the cake. It's no different than any other activity. Treat it like that, exercise good judgment, and you'll be set.
Hemmtt asked:
If I'm on a low pop server and want to make a group to kill Nalak, what's the best way to pull in characters from other servers or join a group forming on a different server?
Hit up OpenRaid, that's your best bet for all sorts of cross-realm fun. It's really a great site, and I love that people use it. Have questions about the World of Warcraft?
