Breakfast Topic: How do you start a new character?

When you've decided to create a new character in WoW, you'd think the actual creation part would be the easiest part of the process. After all the hard part ought to be leveling, advancing, and collecting gear. But for some players (myself included), character creation itself poses a challenge. If you've picked a class, there's still the question of which race to choose -- or if you've picked a race, the question of which class. And, while WoW's character creation mini-game is far from elaborate, there's still the matter of just what your character looks like. But most difficult of all tends to be picking the right name: WoW's been around long enough that many of the names you might usually use in a game have likely been taken.

So tell us, early morning readers: what's your character creation challenge? Does name selection cause you to stumble? Do you have to get your character's look just right? Or is character creation something you fly through, eager to get to the real game? Breakfast Topic: Best race, worst start zone

Breakfast Topic Best race, worst start zoneThis is an image of the undead start zone, taken, appropriately, while dead. The undead start zone is, in my opinion, the best in the game since its redesign. It has quests which actually draw me in, the sad story of Lilian Voss, and of course, the dark lady herself. I love it, I remember the first time I did it, which was, incidentally, after Cataclysm hit. I was entranced by the story, which, for someone who doesn't really dive in to that part of the game, mostly because I don't find it that compelling as it's encountered in the world, that was a big deal.

Conversely, while I feel for the spaceship-crashing draenei, and like playing them, their start zone is not great. It should be noted at this point that this is all highly subjective: different strokes for different folks and all that, just because I dislike one start zone doesn't mean you should too. What I'm wondering is this: what is the best race with the worst start zone?

The reason I ask is that I've recently obtained a US account in order to join up with the folk in WoW Insider's guild, It Came From the Blog, Horde side on Zangarmarsh. I normally play in the EU, but for $5 for the battle chest, I thought "why not?" Of course, I then had to work out what I wanted to level. My favorite horde race, by a long shot, is the goblin. I love them, their funny little walk, their ridiculously large hands, their croaky voices, their pointy ears and noses, their funny haircuts... they're great.

But my god, I hate their start zone. I don't want to drive a hot rod around the place with my friends, I don't want to be stuck on Kezan, unable to do battlegrounds. The great thing about the vanilla races is that, with a little effort, you can take your human to the gnome zone. Or just run around killing things until you're at a level where you can run around and kill more things. You don't have to finish a story and get off an island, you have options.

What's your opinion? What's the race you love to play, with the start zone you love to hate?
