The Queue: He's just so happy

Welcome back to The Queue, the daily Q&A column in which the WoW Insider team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Anne Stickney (@Shadesogrey) used to work in a zoo.

You know, I was perfectly aware that elephants could paint, having worked at the San Diego Zoo before. But I didn't realize they were also happy enough to play the harmonica if given the opportunity.

Dobablo asked:

Q. If I upgrade a BoA archeology item (such as the Umbrella of Chi-Ji) will it become soulbound as the UI warns or does it stay account-bound only?

It will remain account-bound. Feel free to upgrade it and send it to your alts! The Spear of Xuen is a particularly good upgrade, for characters that can use polearms.

shea6040 asked:

Something in today's breakfast topic made me wonder what others do for heroic scenarios. How do you handle getting getting two more players to queue up? I don't want to transfer servers, and with my schedule not really wanting to find a raiding guild. I am considering a transfer to an achievement focused guild, but have not fully committed to this yet. Until then.... What are others doing? Are you lucky enough for a surplus of guildies to run with? Friends galore who are still playing? Plying trade to find more to queue up with you? Forgoing any chance at this new content? Also, tied to the heroic scenarios - do you prefer 2 dps and a healer? All dps on their own? A tank and two dps? Some other mix?

I usually hit up a friend of mine, or my guildmates, or some combination thereof. I haven't had a problem finding two other people to run things with. Keep in mind that I'm in a raid guild, so people are pretty keen on quick ways to gather valor, and heroic scenarios are one of the quickest. I've done them with three dps, and two dps and a healer before -- honestly, I don't have a preference. Both times were speedy enough, and we hit the timers without a problem. Again, this is likely because I'm in pretty decent raid gear at the moment, so take my words with a grain of salt. Others may have different opinions on the subject. Let's see if we get more commentary in the comments section!

PedroAliHernandez asked:

What is the likelihood WoW will develop class specific quests instead of generic questing?

Incredibly unlikely. You might see some class-themed quests here and there, but you're not going to see class quests replace the usual quests you come across while leveling. It'd keep people from working together, for one thing, and I don't even want to think about the development time it'd eat up.

jmduarte asked:

Question for the Queue: Where's Arthas dead body resting? Was he put in an unnamed grave or left to rot at Icecrown Spire? And a following one: What happened to the Armor of the Damned? We know the whereabouts of both the Helm of Domination and Frostmourne so... what about the plate that the Lich King wore?

I like to think he was buried somewhere. You kind of have to understand, the Lich King wasn't Arthas. There wasn't a bit of Arthas left in him by the time we killed him -- and who knows exactly when that piece of Arthas finally died. Arthas' body was just a husk that the Lich King was inhabiting. His decent into darkness was a pity, but he was the Prince of Lordaeron and fairly beloved at some point. I doubt he got any kind of fancy tomb anywhere, but it would be nice if someone had the heart to at least put him in some sort of decent grave somewhere. As for the armor, that's currently unknown, but I'm assuming Bolvar is either wearing it, or keeping an eye on it.

ErikSetzer asked:

Q4TQ: Is there any way to "turn off" Real ID or appear invisible or something while playing the game? Sometimes I just want to log in and play and not talk to people because I'm just not in that zone (or they might want me to hop on a different character, or help them with something, or whatever). I know, I could try just saying, "No, I want to do this other thing," but I'd rather not have to even deal with that, I'd prefer my occasional peace and quiet.

There's no current offline mode for RealID or the Battletag system, but it's something they're working on. In the interview I did with Ghostcrawler, I actually mentioned that feature, because it was supposedly on schedule for one patch or another, and then later dropped. It's still in development, we just haven't seen it yet. So cross your fingers that we'll get it soon!

docteurmi asked:

Q4tQ: Why do WI staffers refer to Sarah Pine as "Sally"? Its most obvious on the WI show and in todays round table. Is Sally a different person? Is Sarah her pen name?

Sarah's name is Sarah, but she likes to be called Sally. Some of us are still getting used to calling her that, is all.

loucypher asked:

Q4tQ: Do you think Blizzard will ever revisit expansion launch events as scenarios? I missed out on the zombie invasion pre-WotLK and I'd love to see the content ingame again.

It would be really cool if they could do that, but if they dedicate the time to that, that's time that they could have spent creating something brand new and interesting instead. So it's a matter of whether or not bringing that old stuff back would really have any kind of re-playability. If it's not something that's really going to keep people engaged, why spent the man hours on developing it, you know?

johnny.ramos33 asked:

Anyone know why Gamon is being surrounded by the Korkron?

Well, Gamon isn't exactly the most swell guy in the world. Interestingly enough, Gamon used to be the subject of a rogue quest, back in the day. He was the assistant of a troll named Tazan, an enemy of the Shattered Hand who regularly traded with pirates near Ratchet. As part of the rogue quest to become a member of the Shattered Hand, you're sent to go aquire Tazan's logbook. Unfortunately, it's locked in a satchel, and the only person who has that key is Gamon. In vanilla, this was just a test of your pickpocketing skills -- could you get the key out of Gamon's pocket without killing him, or not?

But everyone liked killing Gamon. He was a neutral NPC. He doesn't really have much story beyond that, honestly -- he was just the apprentice to some skeezy troll who regularly dealt with pirates and wasn't fondly looked upon by the Shattered Hand, and by extension, the Horde. Gamon's described as being a drunk, so he spent his days quietly drinking in the bar. I like to think, in my mind anyway, that the weight of the world finally got to be too much for poor Gamon, and the continued Kor'kron freakshow in Orgrimmar finally set him off.

In my head I have all kinds of ideas for short stories involving the best little drunkard in Orgrimmar. Maybe someday I'll actually get around to writing them down. Breakfast Topic: Are you a happy healer or a reluctant healer?

Breakfast Topic Are you a happy healer or a reluctant healerI was smirking my way past the Gordon Ramsay-esque commentary on Twitter recently (go to the tweet to view it in all its unblurred, NSFW glory) when it struck me: Blizzard has created so many incentives to play a healer. Obviously, they've worked -- but are the healers enjoying it?

As a long-time healer, I find myself broken-hearted at the idea that players are going through the motions of healing simply because for the sake of faster random queue times or to fill a hole in a roster lineup. Healing by people who aren't passionate about healing? Healing by people who aren't glued to the action? Healing by people who might be watching "other things" on another screen, or eating pizza, or, or ...? Dear readers, we're talking about saving lives here. I weep. Seriously, I weep.

Still, there seem to be quite a lot of healers going about their business in today's game. If you're a healer, do you enjoy the role? Did you choose to be a healer of your own volition, or were you influenced by queue times, role benefits, or the needs of your raid or guild? If you were nudged into healing by outside forces, has it been worth it? Are you a happy healer or a reluctant healer? Around Azeroth: A send-off to the happy hunting grounds

Around Azeroth A sendoff to the happy hunting grounds THURSDAYHunter and WoW blogger Ghemit of The Pride of Stonewall on Proudmoore (US-A) unexpectedly lost his husband and partner of four years, Elloric, on New Year's Day. His guild and Twitter friends organized an in-game memorial for Elloric a few days later. "This showing of love and support shows this is not just a game, but a fantastic community that supports our members when needed," writes Ghemit. "As @notanna from femtaur.com wrote, 'WoW is not a hive of scum and villainy. It is a place of people and relationships. We are a community and I am proud to be a part of it.' I think the picture truly illustrates that."

The Queue: That is one happy buffalo

Welcome back to The Queue, the daily Q&A column in which the WoW Insider team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Anne Stickney (@Shadesogrey) thinks buffaloes are pretty awesome, actually.

Buffaloes are pretty cool animals, you know.

g8rcody asked:

my name is Buffalo, and tomorrow is my birthday! Can we have a buffalo themed queue tomorrow? I've been waiting a whole year!

Aw, you're awfully patient, Buffalo, and I'm nicer than Adam. While I cannot give you a fully buffalo-themed Queue, I will post the above video of a hungry buffalo prancing around, because you'd be surprised how graceful those great giant hairy buggers can actually be. Happy birthday!

ash.w.miller asked:

With BlizzCon 2013 coming up, what's your best guess as to the biggest news of the next expansion:

A) Two new races (or one that can choose either faction)
B) A new Hero Class
C) Both
D) Neither
E) A new planet

Let's assume new zones are a given...

That's a very good question. I don't know about introducing new races -- honestly, there are so many available right now to choose from that it almost seems like adding a new one would be over-cluttering the menu. However, people do like to see new races, so who knows? The same goes for classes -- it's difficult to balance around a new class.

I'm hoping for a new planet. I'm also thinking that if Blizzard really, really wants to shake things up ... well, maybe trying to put in that third faction everyone's been murmuring about would be an interesting idea. Would it be a logistical nightmare? Oh, you bet it would. But would it be cool? I'm going to tentatively say yes, yes it would.

Eric_Says_Hi asked:

I just started raidig via LFR. I'm a little confused about using token for the bonus roll. First, why is the daily to trade in minor tokens for major ones only sometimes available? Second, should I be bonus-rolling on every boss? I would assume I should only bonus roll on a boss that drops soemthing I want, but so far the bonus roll has only given me an additional bag of 28 gold. Is that just bad luck?

It's actually not a daily -- it's a weekly. Once a week, you can get three tokens. You can use them, or you can save them, it's entirely up to you. As for using that bonus roll, you'd be best advised to use it on a boss that would potentially give you the biggest upgrade. Using the coin doesn't automatically guarantee you loot, it's just an extra roll. You still have the same chance at getting or failing to get loot as you did on the original roll.

vaitanis22 asked:

Why is Jaina so powerful? As far as I remember she was an apprentice mage when WC3 started, so she never finished her training in Dalaran, then she spends the next ten years or so leading armies, heading negotiations and running Theramore. So how did she get so much more powerful than NPCs who've spent decades or centuries studying magic and the player characters who've had to survive by their skill in the art against people like Illidan, Kil'jaeden, the Lich King and Deathwing? Is it just really obvious plot armour or is there a sensible reason in the lore for it?

Jaina wasn't just any apprentice, she was apprentice to Archmage Antonidas, leader of the Kirin Tor and one of the most powerful mages around at the time. Jaina was his best student, and acted as a personal agent for him when he couldn't travel himself. She had a lot of power even as an apprentice -- Antonidas wouldn't have taken her on as his personal apprentice otherwise.

joerendous asked:

Do you think there will be another revamp to the talent system for the next expansion? Or will Blizzard try something new?

I think the talent system is as close to what Blizzard really wants it to be as it can get. I don't think we'll see any more major overhauls, but we might see a few tweaks to existing talents and the addition of new ones.

JustinAdams asked:

QftQ: I don't like dailies. As such, I've not bothered with the Operation: Shieldwall reputation. Unfortunately, this also means that I don't get access to the 5-6 story quests I am actually interested in seeing. Or am I wrong about that?

That is correct. The story quests unlock as your reputation with Operation:Shieldwall progresses. However, there are only five dailies per day -- six if you kill an animal in a cage -- and they're all clustered together in one spot. They even offer you portals to the different daily hubs. It's really much, much easier to do than any of the daily quests prior, and the progress is a lot faster as well. I'd recommend checking it out.

@zthomp asked via Twitter:

What's the story behind the high elves in Dalaran who're for the Alliance? (Vareesa et al) Where can I read more abut them?

Those guys are the Silver Covenant. As high elves, they are formerly citizens of Quel'thelas and the surrounding areas. However, unlike their sin'dorei brethern, they did not turn to fel magic to appease their addiction to magic. And they aren't particularly happy that the sin'dorei did so, either -- which is part of the reason why they don't really care for the idea of the blood elves joining the Kirin Tor. The other half ... well, joining the Horde really didn't do much for the reputation of the sin'dorei. You can read more about the Silver Covenant over at Wowpedia -- they're an interesting little faction, particularly in patch 5.1.

@murmursofadruid asked via Twitter:

QftQ: Should I get MoP and return? Is it really worth it?

Yes Murmurs, because I miss my favorite boomchicken.
